Normally when entering your league draft, you have a big board with your rankings of players (well, you should). It’s not a foreign concept to pick the top player available from that list, but you should always consider rethinking how you rank guys. Drafting players out of a strong system should take precedence over a lone warrior on a struggling offense (Antonio Brown for example). This is a foolproof plan on how to win your fantasy football draft in 2019.
There are proven offensive systems created by great football minds throughout the league. Look at the Philadelphia Eagles; Carson Wentz played very well in his rookie year throwing 16 touchdowns to 14 interceptions but ended the season on the IR. Wentz gets hurt again in 2017 and Nick Foles (of all people) comes in to save the day, and the season winning the Super Bowl! Nick Foles must have been working hard all year on getting his 56.4 completion percentage, better right? Not exactly.
Doug Pederson’s offensive scheme has pieces from his former head coach Andy Reid. (as we all know, just about anyone can go to Kansas City and throw for 3000+ yards). He also kept the “mesh” concept from former head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly incorporated rout trees for the receivers to run against man coverage that creates traffic on the field, then he added a wheel rout out of the backfield into the mix. That last touch turned the concept into a money maker.
Conclusion
Philadelphia Eagle quarterbacks are a very safe option to draft. This is even a case where handcuffing won’t hurt you in any way. The starter Carson Wentz will put up the numbers; his backups are Nate Sudfeld, Cody Kessler and Clayton Thorson. Drafting for systems is the smartest way to win your deep fantasy football leagues without question. Protecting your starter with a guy who has little to no value on draft day could lead you to big time winnings.
